Project Oreo Review

6 10 2008

On September 24th, 97 4th grade students participated in Project Oreo, a world-wide cookie stacking exhibition.  Upon arriving to class, students learned that they would be stacking, completing math assignments related to, writing about, and creating sculptures out of Oreo cookies.  They also learned that they were not alone…students in over 600 different schools internationally would be doing the same.

The day was a smashing success!  4A and 4B averaged 19 cookies per stack, while 4C averaged 18 cookies per stack and 4D averaged 16 cookies per stack.

13 Days Until the Big Day!

11 09 2008

On Wednesday, September 24th, the fourth grade classes at Windsor Hill Elementary will be participating in the O.R.E.O project.  The O.R.E.O (Our Really Excellent Online) project is an online, nationwide project which involves a little bit of math, a little bit of English, a little bit of art and technology, and a LOT of cookies…Oreo cookies to be exact.

Project OREO is a contest/ exhibition to see how many Oreo cookies kids can stack before the stack tumbles.  After students are finished stacking, they will record the number of cookies they stacked on an excel spreadsheet with their classmates, and manually average number of cookies they stacked.  They will also complete a writing assignment related to the activity and document their experience online using RCA Small Wonder digital cameras.  Finally, all of the Oreos will be used to build sculptures in Ms. Johnson’s art class.  Stay tuned to this page to see the results!

If you are interested in donating some Oreos for our cause, please contact Anne-Marie Wilcox at amawilcox@dorchester2.k12.sc.us .

Let’s get stacking!
